23 September 2016 Last updated at 13:38 BST Rebel-held districts of the Syrian city of Aleppo are being pounded by warplanes and artillery fire for a second day. The Syrian army says the bombardment is the prelude to a ground operation. Video provided by the Syria Civil Defence, a volunteer rescue service also known as the White Helmets, showed buildings on fire in Aleppo in the early hours of Thursday morning. This footage has not been independently verified by the BBC.
