Surprise! Surprise!
Has Bryan Colangelo assumed the persona of Sam Hinkie? In a true Hinkie-esque move, the Philadelphia 76ers have once more become the contract salary recycle bin for the NBA. The latest trade involves the Utah Jazz, who have traded center Tibor Pleiss to the Philadelphia 76ers for the services of seldom used point guard Kendall Marshall.
The move is seen as a salary dump for the Jazz. Tibor Pleiss was a reserve center for the Jazz who saw action in just 12 games last season, while scheduled to earn $2,800,000 in the 2016-2017 season.
While Kendall Marshall will earn $2,000,000 in 2016-2017, none of the money is guaranteed.

The Philadelphia 76ers get two 2017 second round picks in the deal as well. That is an important year to have picks due to the quality and depth anticipated in the 2017 NBA draft
Picks breakdown: Sixers to get most & least favorable of Jazz four 2017 2nd round picks (own, those of Detroit, Golden State, New York).

While Pleiss is a 7-foot-3 256 pound rookie center of the Jazz, who had little impact for the team. Pleiss faced an uphill battle to make the Jazzs roster this season. His size is his ticket, but he needs more work before he is truly NBA ready.
This is a huge coup for the Philadelphia 76ers. Marshall was clearly not in the teams future plans with so many free agent signings in the back court. Converting Marshall and cap space (which the team needed to commit anyways) into two second round picks in 2017 AND cash considerations is an excellent exchange for the team.

This move has doubled the Philadelphia 76ers draft picks in the all important 2017 NBA draft. I have to give this trade an A+ for the Philadelphia 76ers. Seriously excellent. The most logical move is to simply waive Pleiss. However, a second option could be to develop him if the team is truly close to trading one of their current centers.
